Ohioans Will Be Able to Register to Vote Online in 2017ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Online voter registration is in the works.

But the house government accountability and oversight committee recently changed the bill to push back the effective date until after the November presidential election.

“I’m disappointed in that, because it’s something that we should make available for Ohio voters now,” said Secretary of State Jon Husted. “There is no reason to wait. But I am happy that it is going to pass. It will be part of the future. I just wish it was part of the presence.”

Husted expressed how important online voter registration is.

“Online voter registration is great, because it helps us fulfill our goal of making Ohio a place where it’s easy to vote and hard to cheat. Online voter’s registration make it convenient for voters to register to vote. It’s more secure, because we can instantaneously determine whether somebody is eligible to vote in Ohio. And it save so much money for local governments, because they no longer have to hire somebody to enter in the data. It upload automatically. It’s safe secure. Convenient. Saves money. Obviously it’s good for Ohio,” said Husted.

The national conference of state legislatures said at least 31 states offer online voter registration.
