ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A military non-profit organization made a stop in Zanesville while on trek to walk across America.

Helping Hands for Freedom embarked on a 3,091 mile walk across America. educator, Kevin Winton, and police veteran, David Roth, left Atlantic City on April 28th, beginning a four-and-a-half month walk across America to raise funds to construct a house of healing and PTSD center for military families.

“If a soldier doesn’t have a family to come back to, are they going to be able to solve their problems,” said Roth. “Are they going to be able to address their issues? And if they don’t have a family to come back to frankly, these issues the we are fighting for are never going to get resolved.”

Winton, Roth , and a two-time Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, CEO Darin Fishburn, were at Giacomo’s Bread and More for a meet and greet today. Roth said every day they walk in honor of a soldier.

“We want to create this house of healing. Helping Hands for Freedom and our mission Route for the Brave want to create this house of healing so we can address those issues. Now how are are going to address them, we’re going to create animal care therapy. We’re going to have PTSD center. And we are going to have suites that are fully ADA certified for disability. And we want that environment because some of these issues can’t get taken cared of at home,” said Roth.

At the time of our interview Helping Hands for Freedom was not aware of Giacomo’s fundraising. Our news crew stuck around and captured when Giacomo’s made a monetary donation to the cause. For more information, visit helpinghandsforfreedom.org.
