Lancers fall in district final

Lakewood and Coshocton both dropped district baseball finals on Wednesday, leaving Newark Catholic as the only local team left standing. The Lancers lost a 2-1 decision to Bishop Watterson while the Redskins fell to Hiland, 1-0.

On the softball diamond, New Lexington upended Portsmouth West, 3-2, to punch a ticket to the D-III district final. Also in the MVL, the Sheridan Lady Generals’ D-II district final versus Fairfield Union was postponed to Thursday at 5 p.m. due to unplayable field conditions.
