Muskingum County Sheriff's Office Offers Holiday Safety TipsZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Memorial holiday day weekend is fast approaching. The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office has some tips to keep you and your family safe.

AAA said Memorial Day is the second most traveled holiday. With all these motorists taking to the streets. Sheriff Matt Lutz said to pack patience.

“We want everybody just to take their time,” Sheriff Lutz said. “Make sure they give themselves enough time to travel so that they’re not in a hurry, rushed, or speeding. It seem like when you get rushed that is when accidents can occur. The first part of any good party is arriving safely.”

AAA estimates 1.49 million Ohioans will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, May 26 and Monday May 30th.

“If you have too much to drink [and can’t] drive, make sure you have a plan for when you leave those festivities,” Sheriff Lutz said. “Make sure you have a safe trip home for not only yourself but for your family and other motorist out there.The traffic stop is one of the easiest contacts we get with our citizens and it’s also one of the easiest ways we have getting into criminal activity.”

Sheriff Lutz said the goal of the sheriff’s office is to make this community safe to live, work, and raise a family.
