Green Wave punches fourth straight trip to state tournament

Jody Mummey smacked a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th to help #5 Newark Catholic pull a 4-1 upset over #1 Toronto at Beavers Field in Lancaster. 

The game was tied, 1-1, until Mummey’s clutch single. He also pitched five innings of no-hit relief and picked up the pitching win, escaping a bases loaded, no-out jam in the 6th.

The Green Wave will play Fort Recovery in the state semifinal for the second straight year. This also marks the second year in a row that Newark Catholic knocked off the top-ranked team in the state in the regional final.
