ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The 7th annual “Tee It Up For Autism” golf tournament kicked off Monday.

The Zanesville Country Club hosted this year’s event which is sponsored by Coconis Furniture. More than $60,000 was raised in last year’s tournament. President of the National Autism Association of Southeast Ohio Shannon Coconis said there were many contributing factors that made last year’s tournament a success.

“A lot of local businesses really stepped up,” Coconis said. “Our child tee signs are huge. We pair a local business with a local child on a tee sign. So you can sponsor your grandson, a friend’s son, or daughter. There’s a lot of people from the furniture industry that come into town for this and a lot of people from the Autism industry.”

Coconis hopes to raise $70,000 this year. Coconis said events like these are vital for the community.

“We are in a rural area there’s not a lot of resources around here for Autism. Our organization is the only one that I know of that gives back directly to families,” Coconis said.
