Farmers Eat Well for 50 Cents at Breakfast
It’s hard to believe that 50 cents could buy you a full meal, but it did at Zanesville High School Saturday morning…
The Future Farmers of America held the Farmers’ Share Breakfast, where people enjoyed pancakes, eggs, sausage and a drink for just half a buck. John Glenn Agricultural Education Instructor Andy Spiker said that 50 cents is about all a farmer would profit from that meal.
"We got farmers working hard everyday, and it seems that their image anymore is starting to get deflated a little bit. We want to make sure that people don’t think that the expensive grocery store prices or expensive food prices are watching a bunch of farmers get rich," said Spiker.
This is the third year the breakfast has been held in Muskingum County. Spiker said there’s always a great turnout, and it takes a lot of helping hands.
"Farm Bureau members and local FFA students. And what we’re also trying to show is there’s way more farmers out there than what you think. There’s still a lot of small family farms, there’s still a lot of people in agriculture today."
Local organizations including the Animal Shelter and The Wilds took part in Saturday’s event.
