New Concord’s 57th-annual Firemen’s Festival begins

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The New Concord Firemen’s Festival is one of the village’s favorite traditions and today the festivities began.
The tradition has been going on in the village for 57 years. Today, the festival will have live music , inflatables, food and drinks, and of course fireworks. Mark Jenei, who works as the public information officer for the New Concord Fire Department said that the weather should not be a factor for this year’s display.
“We’re going to get them in today,” said Jenei in reference to the fireworks. “Just looked at the radar a little bit ago. Everything is going to the south of us.”
The fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Friday night. Satuday the event continues with a 5K, a chicken dinner, and a parade through Main Street that starts at 1:30 p.m.
“This year we’ve got Mr. Woodard (John Glenn High School head basketball coach). Greg Woodard is supposed to be our MC. He’s going to be coming through town in front of the parade. Our biggest draw is the people from the community that come here year-after-year,” said Jenei.
All money raised goes toward the New Concord Fire Department.
