What Is Pokemon Go?

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- “Pokemon Go” combines the digital and real world together by using a cellphones GPS and clock to detect where you are in the game and make Pokemon “appear” around you on your phone screen.
As you move around, different types of Pokemon will appear on your screen for you to be able to catch using “Pokeballs”.
The idea is to encourage folks to travel around the real world to catch Pokemon in the game.
We caught up with some of the local Pokemon Trainers on Tuesday at Zane’s Landing Park.
“It’s like people are getting out together. I’ve seen so many people that I’ve never even met before. I’ve met tons of new people, it’s really bringing the community together,” said Rj Gill, Pokemon Trainer.
Part of the reason why the game is so popular is because it’s free and easy to use.
“Pokemon Go” fulfills a fantasy that Pokemon fans have had since the first games came out in the 1990’s.
“Everybody can play it, its free on your app, its free on your phone, you don’t have to have a console, you can do it literally anywhere.” said Cory Hoskinson, Pokemon Trainer.
He also said that he’s seen people of all ages playing. “It’s totally civilian friendly, you’re actually getting your community out on the streets talking to each other. I’ve never seen anything like that in downtown ever before.”
To download the game, all you have to do is to go on the App Store on your phone or tablet, click and download “Pokemon Go”, and start catching your very own Pokemon.
