Residents Establish Surgery Support Group

Community members are reaching out to others on a topic that affects a variety of people.

Mick Amicone and Dr. Ralph Smith both dealt with joint replacement surgery, and its after-effects. They’re establishing a support group for people in the area who have experienced the same.

"I figured I’d be out running around in a week or two. But it’s been three months and it’s coming now. But with running into Mick, here, we started talking that there’s not enough information out. This joint replacement is serious business," said Smith.

Amicone experienced hip replacement surgery. He said people who have had or are anticipating joint replacement are welcomed to attend the support group and receive as much information as possible.

"It’s so important to let these people that are contemplating this surgery know, to do everything, and I repeat, every single thing you can to prepare yourself for surgery. Not mentally, not emotionally, not psychologically, but physically," said Amicone.

The first meeting will take place on May 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Fieldhouse.
