Mayor Tilton meets with County Commissioners

County Commish

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Mayor of Zanesville, Jeff Tilton met this morning with the Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss brownfields around the community.

Mayor Tilton said Zanesville recently received an extension on a grant to test out brownfields which extends the period to September 30th, 2020. These tests include two different phases.

“We were here to announce that we have an extension on our brownfield grant that will be used for phase one and phase two on properties throughout the city and the county. I am asking the county to kind of announce that to everyone they can, because we still have about $320,000 out of $550,000 to spend on phase one or phase two assessments within the county,” said Tilton.

Phase one will give you the history of the property whether there was any dumpings or anything that should not be on the property Tilton said. While phase two is more of the testing part that goes off of phase one to see what was dumped there.

“What it is, is an assessment. They are asking for us or an environmental group to come in and give them a history. It is no kind of enforcement or anything else. It is just an assessment. Moving forward if they want to develop or sell their property,” Tilton added.

Mayor Tilton said the meeting went very well, and he hopes people looking for the assessment will come forward and get in touch with either the City of Zanesville, the County, or himself.
