Longtime Zanesville Businessman Dies
A longtime Zanesville businessman has died. Leonard Ballas, who spent nearly 30 years running the Ballas Egg in downtown Zanesville, died Wednesday in Cincinnati after a brave battle with cancer. He learned the egg business from his dad then spent 26 years teaching it to his son, Craig, before retiring in June of 2011. Ballas was a respected leader and spokesman for the egg-products industry and was proud that he helped build a worldwide list of customers. Ballas was a quiet and generous philanthropist and served on many local boards. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Bolin Dierkes Funeral Home. On Friday the family will greet visitors at Beth Abraham Synagogue at 10 a.m. and then the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Beth Abraham Cemetery.
