ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A historic downtown church is celebrating a landmark anniversary today; as Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church turns 175 years old.

Pastor Andrew Wilson says that the church is thankful to God and the community for many years of ministry.

“We’re thanking the Lord for the blessing of being here today to celebrate 175 years of being a congregation here in Zanesville. God has blessed our congregation in so many ways over the years; and that was our theme as we celebrate today with a special service and a reception. That God has been our help in all the years gone by, and God is surely our hope for the years yet to come.”

It is rare for a church to reach such a milestone, as most dissolve after several decades. However, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church has been able to weather the test of time.

“Usually a church, the studies show; they last about 80 years and then they die out. And so for Trinity being 175 years, I think the Lord has blessed it greatly and I think it’s had a few rebirths during that time. Throughout all those years though, the thing that’s centered us was being in God’s word and receiving his gifts.”

The congregation maintains a mission of service as it looks to the future. Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church has been located at 128 South 7th Street, in Zanesville, since 1844.
