Zanesville Honors Local Heroes

A local group pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The Muskingum County Foundation’s Scholarship Central hosted a lunch for fire fighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel as a way to say thank you for their service.

"September 11th is considered a service day and when we think September 11th we think of the firefighters and the EMS and the law enforcement that went out and served and helped when the towers came down so we wanted a way to say thank you to these guys and our community because they’re so special to us," said member of Muskingum County Foundation, Samantha Garber.

Scholarship Central’s Americorps Ohio College Guides and students from Maysville High School volunteered at the lunch. The outpour of support from the community made the local servicemen and women feel even more appreciated for their continued service.

"You know a lot of those kids, some of them weren’t even in elementary school when 9/11 happened but to see them come out and appreciate it. Someone’s been telling them that they took the chance to learn about it and it does mean enough to them to come out and volunteer their time, I guess that’s special to me," said Jeff Bell a 11 year veteran of the Zanesville Fire Department.
