Learning from Home

Since an order was issued to close schools in Ohio due to
the Cornavirus. Teachers as well as parents have had to adjust to remote
learning.
West Muskingum Teachers have embraced technology as a way to keep students learning and engaged. Some having Zoom meetings to teach lessons, others using Google Classroom and some using YouTube.
Their goal is that parents shouldn’t have to do the teaching, but should be there to make sure students are getting to the sites they need.
“It was defiantly an eye opening experience when it all started.,” said 4th Grade Teacher Jessica Pickrell. “It was overwhelming because there are so many educational websites out there and they were e-mailing all of us, e-mailing the teachers we’re offering this free.”
Kara Robinson has two children learning from home. She says the hardest part has been making sure homework and tests are getting submitted correctly, but said teachers have been beyond helpful.
“There was so much grace. We’re all in this together. If it’s submitted late it’s okay. This is a learning curve. How can I help you? I feel like it’s really been handled with kindness and grace the entire district,” said Williams.
Pickrell said she misses her students and the normalcy of going to work each day. While, Williams said it’s hard missing out on end of the year milestones, like a 4th grade graduation for her son.
Both agree that the safety of the students and what’s best for them educationally is top priority.
