Governor DeWine closes Ohio K-12 Schools for Remainder of School Year

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Monday announced that Ohio Schools will be closed for the remainder of the academic year. DeWine says our young people will continue to go to school remotely. The Governor has not made a decision on reopening schools in the fall. He says we have to think about the risk to teachers, students and our communities, and with only weeks left in the school year it would be best to continue remote learning. DeWine says he is impressed with everything our educators are doing to continue educating our kids in their difficult circumstances. He says he has concerns about particular groups of kids like children with special development needs, with health challenges and kids with no or limited internet. The Governor also said COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting African Americans in Ohio and the country. He announced a Minority Health Strike Force to focus on this issue. The Ohio Department of Health is reporting 12,516 confirmed coronavirus cases and 491 deaths.
