School Giveaway At Civic Center

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-A coalition of organizers, community organizations and local candidates put on a school supply giveaway this afternoon.
The event was held at the Zanesville Civic League Center and was attended by the Carr Center. Chief Organizer Kyle Johnson explained how the event came to be.
“Initially the idea came about to do a social distance movie in a public park, but then I knew my friend groups and some of the people I know and they wouldn’t have social distanced, so it wouldn’t have been very safe to do a social distance movie, so then I thought why don’t we do a drive through cookout, and then provide some free lunches to the community and also school supplies to the area youth.”
The event was attended by local nominees for government positions including Matt Lutz and Joshua Weaver for sheriff, Alaina Swope for state representative and Alaina Shearer for U.S. representative. Johnson says that it was his idea to include the candidates.
“I built on top of that idea to also allow political figures to come and canvass. I provided equal opportunity to all political figures on the Muskingum County ballot. I just sent an invite out and all the people that contacted me to reserve I contacted their opponent to make sure everyone had equal opportunity. There’s a lot going on, we’re doing voter registration, we’re passing out census information. We have several organizations canvassing.”
Turnout for the event resulted in a line of cars around the block.
