Demolition Begins on Old Philo Bridge

ZANESVILLE, OH – Today demolition began on the old Philo Bridge. Half of the bridge was brought down by explosives earlier this morning.
Muskingum County Engineer Mark Eicher says the demolition crew started by cutting out cross sections of beams used to hold up the bridge. Then explosives were used to take out the remaining beams that kept the bridge in place. Half of the bridge dropped onto the causeway below where track hoes will be able to go in and remove the debris. The remaining half of the bridge will be demolished in the same way at a later date.
In mid October officials named the newly constructed bridge the Lt. Michael J. Lutz Memorial Bridge
