ZANESVILLE – The first pet is an adorable 2 month-old Mixed Terrier puppy named Joey. Joey can grow to be anywhere from 20 to 40 pounds and adopting the pup is a good idea for an owner with a bit of patience.

“When you do go to adopt a puppy, you have to keep in mind the extra work; the training, getting them used to the home, crate training if you work with that, (but) what a positive part of it is if you have young children in the home, they can grow up with the animal and it produces life skills for them,” Animal Shelter Society General Manager April Cohagen – Gibson said.

Another dog in focus is a 4-month-old German Shepherd named Phoenix. Phoenix was recently featured in a story on WHIZ and had very infected eyes. The society says that a lot of great supporters donated to the cost of his care and the staff hopes he soon finds his forever home.

“He’s like a little kid. He’s going to take a lot of patience, a lot of time, a lot of good praise. He responds to good praise. He’s fun. He’s loving. He loves everybody and everything and even though he has no eyes and cannot see, his ears get him where he needs to be… where he needs to be,” Animal Care Manager Rebecca Hunt said.

The Animal Shelter Society wants to thank the community for all of its help with caring for Phoenix.
