Volunteers Brave The Storm
Hunger doesn’t stop when bad weather hits.
A group of volunteers, many of them from Ark Springs Baptist Church in Chandlersville, braved the storm to help those in need. Rita Ogg said a little snow wasn’t going to stop her from making the trip to Christ’s Table.
"That was one of my concerns, because I figured the homeless needed something warm to eat, and I just knew they were going to be here, so I thought I should be here too," said Ogg.
Members of the church donate their time every fifth Saturday. They served hot soup and sandwiches to anyone who needed a break from the cold.
"It’s always a privilege to do the Lord’s work," said Ogg. "That’s the way we all feel about it. Once you come here, you’re pretty much hooked."
Christ’s Table employs six full-time employees, but assistance to prepare, serve and deliver meals is provided from a pool of 100 volunteers. About 230 in-house meals and 180 homebound meals are served daily.
