County Commissioners meet to review Bid Offers on Road Resurfacing

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The County Commissioners met this morning to review bid offers on companies willing to resurface roads in Muskingum County.
The Shelly Company, Shelly and Sands Inc and NLS Paving Inc were the three bidders. Thirteen different roads will be resurfaced once the county commissioners accept a bid offer.
“We try to resurface every 10 years, but a lot of times it goes out to 15 and 20 years before we can resurface. It just maintains the integrity of the road, without it, it just deteriorates and then you have all the potholes and alligator cracking and the road just falls apart,” Muskingum County Engineer Mark Eicher said.
Out of the four paving projects, three are funded through the Ohio Public Works Commission. The other project is being funded by the county commissioners. A total of 25.23 miles will be resurfaced.
“I’d like to thank the commissioners for the million dollars that they gave us to help fund this. They funded over 11 miles of paving this year and they also are funding some bridge replacements,” Eicher said.
Eicher said Muskingum County has the most road mileage in the state.
