Events have officially kicked off for the Centennial celebration of the life of Astronaut and Senator, John Glenn.

Though the events will be taking place for the entire month of July, the focus will be on the events taking place on July 16, 17, and 18.

“It’s the John Glenn Centennial and there are definitely events taking place the entire month but the focus is July 16, 17, and 18 with great events taking place including a parade, a run, there are several authors that are coming in, there are several films that are being provided for families. So, just lots and lots of great activities, fun for the entire family, but it is, again, our honor to celebrate the life and legacy of John Glenn,” said Vice President of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce Kelly Ashby.

And not to be lost in the middle of all the events, there will be many opportunities to learn about the accomplishments of John Glenn and why he is such an important figure, The Muskingum County Library system will be hosting various programs, movies, and activities to help educate the public.

“So this would be his 100th birthday on July 18th. So it is a perfect time for us to celebrate his life and celebrate not only what he meant to New Concord, but for the Nation; astronaut, government, service to all. So it’s a wonderful time for us to celebrate his life,” added Ashby.
