Big Brothers Big Sisters Zanesville Recruiting Mentors and Preparing for Super Bowl Square Fundraiser

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- Big Brothers Big Sisters Zanesville (BBBSZ) started the year off by focusing on recruitment efforts.
January was National Mentoring Month and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville took part in the month by recruiting male mentors for their little’s.
Katie Mainini, Executive Director at BBBSZ, said during the National Mentoring Month they were able to successfully meet their goal in the agency, but they are still in need of mentors for the 27 boys that are currently on the waiting list.
“I hate to keep going back to the pandemic, but as we transition out of the pandemic, we’ve seen a really great need for more kids to have that one on one time with an adult. I think kids maybe lost a little bit of their childhood through all that pandemic stuff. Being at home remote learning we lost a lot of human interaction, face to face,” Mainini stated. “The majority of the kids in our program are at risk and that’s generally speaking. It’s kids that face challenges all across all different socio economic situations so really for them just to have that person that they can count on.”
Mentors can be an impactful role model for their little through things like the lunch buddy school programs, community base matches, activity programs and more within Big Brothers Big Sisters.
National Mentoring Month may be over, but BBBSZ will continue to recruit for mentors throughout the year while also getting in the football spirit by selling the popular Super Bowl Squares.
“We are on the local level bringing back our Super Bowl Fundraiser. The Rams and the Bengals are playing and someone can purchase a square, $20 dollars a square. You can purchase more than one if you’d like,” Mainini said. “The square will be randomly assigned on our board and we actually did already sell out our first round of squares so we opened up another board so we have plenty more squares available.”
To purchase a Super Bowl square or become a mentor, please call into the BBBSZ directly to speak with staffing or the website at bbbsz.org.
For more information on the qualifications on being a mentor, Mainini said for those who are interested can also view the mentor facts AD on their Facebook page.
