Picking out a Prom Dress at the 2022 Princess Blessings Event

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- Prom night is one of the most memorable moments a young girl will remember for the rest of her life.

However, local leaders are making this night more memorable and affordable for families by giving away prom dresses through their Princess Blessings event.

“Princess Blessing is an event where girls in need can come and get a prom dress or formal wear for their end of the year dance. It’s for free, no questions asked. They can come and try things on, shop, we have some other things available like accessories, shoes, things like that,” Becky Clawson, the creator of Princess Blessings stated.

Clawson said she currently has an inventory of about 500 dresses, but is encouraging those to continue to make dress donations starting now up until the day before the event.

“I took this up about 10 years ago and it just really seemed like a need in our community. A lot of families were struggling to make ends meet and these events at school are important for young girls’ development and independence, but also expensive for families,” Clawson said. “These dresses can cost anywhere from $200 dollars to $1,000 dollars and then that evening includes a lot of other things that families have to pay for so we really just wanted to help out. So a group of my friends got together and we’ve been putting this event on every year since.”

Princess Blessings will take place on April 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Carr Center. Clawson said there will be volunteers there to help try things on. 

To donate dresses along with shoes and accessories, the Carr Center will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
