Muskingum County Fairgrounds Host Hunting Beagle Nationals

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- This year’s Hunting Beagle Nationals is currently being held at the Muskingum County fairgrounds.
The United Kennel Club or (UKC) is the official sponsor of the multi-day event.
People from all over the country and Canada are invited to show off their beagles and their dogs hunting skills
Nicole Sedlecky, Director of Major Events for UKC says that moving the national event to the community was a very beneficial decision.
“So we decided to move our Hunting Beagle Nationals over to Muskingum County really for the great hunting grounds that are local to this area, the number of hotels and restaurants and the wonderful building that were able to use here at the fairgrounds,” Sedlecky told us.
The Hunting competition had 200 dogs to participate with 35 top dogs in an invite only category to compete for $35,000.
The dogs are expected to follow certain criteria and look the part in order to compete according to Sedlecky.
“UKC is all about dogs that do more and we really like to see dogs that not only look like the breed they are supposed to look like and that breeds standard and confirmation but also be able to perform the job that they were bred to do,” she told us.
UKC does have competitions for other breeds of dogs throughout the country as well.
The event started on the 14th and will be all wrapped up tomorrow.
