ZANESVILLE, Ohio – 24 brand new smoke detectors were given to the Zanesville Fire Department today.

The State Farm Insurance, Linden Avenue Branch donated them.

The program is an effort to help the community, and Zanesville has 6 branches.

Rick Luman, a State Farm Insurance Agent says that the smoke detectors are life changing.

“We’ve seen a lot of devastation with fire and losses both from an insurance company standpoint, life insurance. He’s had to deal unfortunately with some deaths recently. From fire losses in Muskingum County, and the Zanesville area. They definitely are something that State Farm is doing to help,” Luman said.

Fire safety pamphlets will also be given out with the smoke detectors.

Assistant Chief of the Zanesville Fire Department, Doug Hobson says that every home should have one.

“Unfortunately, we see smoke detector covers hanging down, the batteries have been taken out. Maybe the oven hasn’t been cleaned and it goes off every time someone cooks. These right here are a proven fact that they’re a lifesaver. Please, please, you need to have smoke detectors in every home in the city of Zanesville and Muskingum County,” the Chief told us.

The fire department is very grateful for the donation and is sure that they will save a life.

Every resident of Muskingum County is eligible to receive their own smoke detector if needed.
