MLK Jr Scholarship Fund Prayer Breakfast

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 29th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund Prayer Breakfast is quickly approaching and Muskingum County Community Foundation Director of Programs Beth Fox explained the significance of the event and discussed some of the details.

“So this is our 29th year of helping with the Martin Luther King book scholarship,” Fox said. “This scholarship was established to help our county minority students as they continue on their educational path into college. So this is supposed to help them with some of those extra expenses, such as books, technology fees and whatnot.”

The ceremony will also honor the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department and the unsung healthcare heroes who have served the community throughout the pandemic. The event always coincides with a canned food donation drive that supports Christ’s Table and the Muskingum County Hunger Network.

“Martin Luther King Day is such an important day for so many of us and it really gives us that day to kind of take a break and do service for others. And I think that’s truly what this whole program embodies. It’s about helping others, it’s about giving back. That is true, the canned food drive that we have going on simultaneously,” Fox said.

The event will air 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 16, on WHIZ-TV and at 7:30p.m. on Fox 5. A full list of scholarship recipients can be found by scrolling below.
