Golfing To Help Area Seniors
The Zanesville Fraternal Order of Police had a fundraiser on Sunday to offset the cost of an event they throw for senior citizens around the holidays.
The FOP Zane Lodge 5 partnered with members of Terry’s Tavern to have the 2nd annual Terry’s Tavern Golf Tourney. All the money raised at the tournament goes towards a Christmas senior dinner.
"The senior dinner has been in place for many many years. We partner with the Senior Center and our sponsors to put on a Christmas dinner for the seniors every year. I think we feed between 1,100 and 1, 300 people around Christmas time," said President of FOP, Wes Elson.
During the outing guests ate lunch, won prizes and participated in a silent auction. Elson says last year’s tournament raised $2,500 and he expects to exceed that amount this year because there were more members present.
" We’re not sure. We had a lot of whole sponsors and we are waiting to tally up. It will go a long ways towards deferring the cost," said Elson
Elson wants to thank Terry’s Tavern and all of the sponsors for their support.
