Drug Take Back Day

Saturday was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The Muskingum County Health Department and multiple agencies across America gave citizens the opportunity to dispose any expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The public was able to drive through the health department and drop off their medicines for it to be sorted and safely disposed.
“The non-narcotic will be incinerated. The sharps will go and get incinerated through Genesis. And then everything’s gone.” Former CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carrel said.
Disposing medications safely helps keep toxic medications out of the groundwater and helps protect you or wildlife from harm.
“It’s important because you get things out of peoples medicine cabinets that could poison somebody, or somebody could overdose on.” Carrel said.
This event will be happening again in October.
