Day two of the Carr Center’s 37th annual Cake Auction came to a close Thursday.

The Secrest Auditorium was heating up as people called in fast and furious with bids. For the first time since Covid, people were able to see the cakes in person and enjoy a free slice of cake. Day one ended with 173 cakes being auctioned.

“Day one was fabulous, can’t say enough about all the donors and the community really stepped up. We had a wonderful day and we’re off to a great start today,” said executive director of The Carr Center, Becky Clawson.

The highest bid for day one was cake #105 by Freedom Tactical which was from Storybook Cakes by Kristene Mellor. That cake was purchased by L & L Rental for $3,700. There was an increase in the number of bids this year because there is a new feature for potential cake buyers.

“The bidding has gone really well. We’ve had a lot more text bids coming in this year which is fantastic. I think more people are using it and it’s a little more work friendly. You know, if you’re at work, it’s easier to text back and forth rather than be on the phone all day,” stated Clawson.

The text to bid process will be returning next year. The final numbers will be posted on the Carr Center’s website, and you can also check out who won the people’s choice cake there as well.
