EBT Debit Card System Failure
On Saturday, frustrated and panicked customers, who rely on food stamps in 17 states, could not use their debit cards due to a system glitch.
Xerox, which operates the system, reported that a routine test of back-up systems, caused the technical complications which prevented cards from being used in many states, including Ohio. A Xerox spokeswoman said the system required time to ensure service was back "At Full Functionality".
While she stated that Xerox’s Electronic Benefits System is up and running again, WHIZ has received reports from local EBT users, that some stores in the area are still experiencing technical difficulties. We attempted to contact various Zanesville stores and some refused to comment, based on corporate policy. However, most said after a rough day Saturday and a rocky start Sunday, the system seems to be working again.
The government was quick to comment that the system failure had nothing to do with the Government Shutdown.
