Somerset Memorial Park Welcomes Enchanting Storybook Trail Featuring Local Author’s Tale

Perry County Storybokk Trail Book

PERRY COUNTY, OH – A new Storybook Trail is coming to Somerset Memorial Park in Perry County.

The Village of Somerset was awarded a Storybook Trail Grant by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for $8,160.

The trail will contain a story called “In the Quiet, Noisy Woods” written by Perry County author Michael J. Rosen.

James Emery, the Program Manager with Somerset Memorial Park, said Rosen is very excited to share with the community.

“This is the perfect book for our trail, I think.” Emery said. “It’s all about Rosen’s backyard and his backyard is right here in Perry County. It’s a perfect space and I know he’s excited to share his book with us.”

The .5 mile trail will contain 20 high resolution photos of the book. Emery said there will also be Q-R codes that you can scan on your phone, then the author can read along with you and your family.

Emery said he got the idea to bring a storybook trail to Perry County by seeing how families enjoyed the trail while he was on a run.

“I was running in Columbus and I passed a storybook trail.” Emery said. “I saw all the strollers and kids being pushed around and it just seemed to be a good experience for them. Just to get people involved and out of the house more.”

Plans for the storybook trail are set to begin next spring.
