Margaret “Kathy” Mathews

Margaret “Kathy” Mathews, 70 of Zanesville, died 6:23 PM, Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville.

She was born Sunday, February 22, 1953, in Zanesville, the daughter of Richard R. Cox and Marilyn A. (Dinan) Cox. She married Gene Mathews on Saturday, May 24, 1997, and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Kathy was an avid golfer belonging to many Ladies Leagues at Green Valley Golf Club and enjoyed bowling. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Gene Mathews; one daughter, Gayle (Eric) Detwiler; one grandchild, Mason (Mary Brooke Keany) Detwiler, and one step-daughter, Robin (Selina Emerson) Mathews.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her step-son, David Eugene Mathews.

Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, November, 14 2023, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 935 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. David Young as celebrant.
