Long Hugh

Hugh R. Long, 82 of Zanesville, formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at 8:56 PM, Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Genesis Morrison House Hospice, surrounded by his loving family, following a short illness. He was born Saturday, July 12, 1941, in Cambridge, the son of Elvin Long and Carrie (Harding) Long. He married Karen (Turner) Long on August 28, 1999, who survives.

Hugh was a Christian by faith, and proudly served in the United States Air Force, 97th Bomb Wing Strategic Air Command, and was later attached to the U-2 Maintenance Group. He was a retired Master Bench Jeweler, and watch repairman.

Hugh played music in his early years, and enjoyed playing bass guitar with LBS Express Band. He loved researching his family ancestry, and along with Karen enjoyed their many travels. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Karen, Hugh is survived by his sons, Jon R “Randy” (Tonia) Long, Chad W. Long, Brett M. (Kim) Long, Todd W. (Jennifer McCormick) Long all of Cambridge, and Mark (Lucinda) Bell of Zanesville; one daughter, Amy (Paul) Nestor of Zanesville; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Karen) Long of Florida, one sister, Kathryn Mann of NC, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra (Taylor) Long, one great grandson, Tyler R. Eelman; brothers, Cecil Carpenter, James W. Finley, Hubert E. Finley and Elvin “Bud” Long.

Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Monday, November 20, 2023, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, were a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating. Burial will conclude in the Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge at a later date.
