Sue McClanahan-Pepper

Sue Ellen McClanahan-Pepper, 84, of Zanesville, died Tuesday evening, December 12, 2023, at Genesis Hospital.

Born September 10, 1939, in Oak Hill, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late David William and Jessie Elizabeth (Jones) Herbert. Sue retired after 31 years of teaching in the Columbus Public Schools. She was a member of the retired teachers association, St. Ann Catholic Church, and former member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Columbus. Sue enjoyed dancing and traveling, where she took many trips to Hawaii. Above all, Sue loved her family and spending time with them.

Surviving are two nieces, Sheryl (Scott) VanAntwerp and Susan (Mark) Huffman; a stepdaughter, Dr. Carol Gillespie; a stepson, Ronald Pepper; seven great nieces and nephews; nine great great nieces and nephews; a step- grandson, Michael (Jessica) Gillespie and two step great grandsons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband D. Bert McClanahan; second husband, Dr. Paul Pepper; her sister, Janet Martin Williamson and step grandson, Scotty Gillespie.

Friends and family may visit Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 4:00-5:00pm at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, Dresden.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am, Monday December 18, 2023, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 405 Chestnut Street, Dresden with Fr. Martin Ralko celebrant.

Sue will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Dr. Bert McClanahan at Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
