Owens Sentenced to Prison

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–A former Muskingum University student athlete will spend time behind bars.

The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office said Z’yon Owens received a 12-year prison sentence connected to the sexual assault of two women on campus.

The 19-year-old appeared before Judge Mark Fleegle and plead guilty to two counts of rape. Owens was indicted by a Muskingum County Grand Jury in September of this year for the crimes that occurred in August and September of the 2023 school year.

Authorities said the two victims reported the assault by Owens, to Muskingum University personnel, who referred the case for further investigation and criminal prosecution.
