Getting back into a health routine after the holidays

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Muskingum County YMCA has a many different options to choose from to help you kickstart your health journey.
Starting out slow and finding activities you enjoy after the holidays is the best thing you can do for your body.
“I think my biggest tip is, everyone has those big goals for their New Years resolution, my biggest thing is start slow, we see it throughout the years, people come in gung ho, they do extreme workouts where their body is not used to or come five, six, seven days a week and it’s too much starting out, they’ll either overdo it over train and they’re so sore, they’ll get miserable, they’ll get frustrated and they quit, so that’s the biggest thing, if you are starting out new, go slow, find something that you love, if you don’t like running don’t come in and run three miles the first day because you’re going to just hurt yourself and over train,” said Sarah Savage, a Wellness Instructor at The Muskingum County YMCA.

“That’s the good thing about the Y, there is so much variety, like if you have knee issues, we recommend a lot of the arthritis water aerobics classes. or even just beginning working out, strength training you want to start out slow, light weights, if you’re not comfortable on a fitness floor in any gym that you go to ask for help, we do orientations for new members, we do have personal trainers and if you want to do something more in a group that kind of keeps you motivated with other people you can go into the group classes which are included in the membership also,” said Savage.
