ZANESVILLE, Ohio–A new business in Zanesville is offering parents a place to sip coffee and relax while their children play.

The Play Grounds Coffee and Play Cafe, located on Maple Ave, is keeping kids busy and active while parents relax.

“So our goal was to have parents come together and meet other parents and kind of make new friends that way, but also have the kids make new friends as well and get socialization that they might not get somewhere else,” said Owner Mackenzie Tyson.

The shop opened in October, but Tyson said she’s been thinking about it since her now 4-year-old daughter was born.

“When she was born, we realized there wasn’t really have anything for kids her age to do. And specifically inside where we don’t have to worry about the weather elements in Ohio.”

Amy Ellis has been bringing all five of her kids to play since opening day. She said it gives her a break and some socialization.

“I can relax and talk to my friends and watch them play and know that they’re safe,” said Ellis. “There’s always other kids here that they can play with and socialize with. I think that is really important for little kids, especially coming out of Covid because Covid was bad.

Customers can reserve playtime of the Play Grounds website for kids ages 6 months to 7-years-old Monday through Friday from 8am until 2pm. Parents can also reserve party times on Saturday’s for any special event.
