Muskingum University Gains National Recognition

NEW CONCORD, OH – Muskingum University may be a small institution hidden in the hills of eastern Ohio but its curriculum is being recognized as a large presence nationally.
Nursing Program Director Dr. Cindy Wilkins discussed how their RN to BSN program was ranked number one in the state of Ohio by rncareers.org, which also distinguishes it nationally.
“For nurses who are interested in earning the BSN, it is a fully online program,” Wilkins said. “So they do not have to come to campus. It’s flexible, it is doable, as really it is based upon the person and how fast they want to try to go through the program. So most people finish it in two years because they are working full-time, they have families, etcetera. It’s flexible so students can kind of jump in and jump out of the program as they need to.”
Wilkins noted that one of the strongest aspects of the program is the quality and consistency of the faculty, which benefits the students through stability and familiarity.
“Choose Ohio First scholarship is probably the primary one,” Wilkins said. “It’s awarded to people who are in science programs and certainly nursing is a very strong science based program. And we award scholarships through that. We do have some other grant opportunities and other individual scholarships from private donations that people have given us. So I would encourage people who are interested in getting scholarships to ask those questions.”
