Emmett Mitchell

Emmett James Mitchell, 78, of Sonora passed at 1:58pm Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Genesis Health Care after a sudden illness.
He was born on Tuesday, April 17, 1945 in McArthur, Ohio the son of Floyd James Mitchell and Myrtle Catherine Nickels Mitchell.
Emmett was a member of the God’s Children’s Cathedral of Sonora, Ohio and retired in 2002 from Armco Steel as a tractor driver after almost 40 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Kay Whissel Mitchell; three children and their spouses: Della Neff and Andy Perry of White Cottage, Daniel Madison and Wayne Mayes, Deborah and Kevin Harrison of Columbus; three grandchildren, Amber, Adam and Kiah. Also survived by siblings: Mary Young, Virginia (Chuck) Roe, Jack (Korey) Mitchell of McArthur; Bessie Irvin of Springfield; Joan (Bill) Roe, Marilyn Boyd of Jackson; Betty (Bill) Humphrey , Jerry (Lynn) of Logan; Richard (Sondra) Mitchell of Ray; and Paul (Tammy) Mitchell of Chillicothe.
In addition to his parents, Emmett was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Dean Mitchell and one sister, Charlotte Baughman.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home where funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Peoples officiating. Burial will conclude at the St. Paul Cemetery.
