Marcelene Lanning

Marcelene M. (Unklesbay) Lanning, 93, of Byesville, passed away Monday (February 5, 2024) at Altercare of Cambridge.

She was born August 12, 1930 in Byesville, daughter of the late Paul W. Unklesbay and Hazelle L. (Best) Unklesbay.

A 1948 graduate of Cambridge High School, Marcelene retired from NCR where she had worked as an assembler for many years.

She was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Women’s Missionary Fellowship.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lanning, who passed away May 16, 2016. They were married on November 20, 1949. Also deceased is a brother and sister-in-law, Paul J. and Betty Unklesbay.

Marcelene is survived by a son, Colin (& Huong) Lanning of Byesville; three daughters, Danira Hammack of Columbus, Valarie (& Garry) Kirby of Byesville, and Mardene (& Larry) Oliver of Byron GA; six grandchildren, Keith (& Tami) Kirby, Kelly Thawley (& Chas), Kenneth (& Bethany) Kirby, Joe (& Jennifer) Oliver, Alison Oliver (& Kyle), and Samuel Lanning; twelve great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Kirby, Taylor Kirby, Becca Kirby, Noah Kirby, Brantley Thawley, Jamieson Kirby, Ava Kirby, Calla Kirby, Bryant Kirby, Leila Kirby, Issac Oliver, and Isabella Oliver; and a special niece, Sandy.

Visitation will be held Thursday (February 8, 2024) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville. Additional visitation hours will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church, Byesville. Funeral services will be held Friday (February 9, 2024) at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church, Byesville. Pastor Kenny Kirby will officiate, with Pastor Dennis Rost assisting.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.

As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions in Marcelene’s name be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 245 S 6th St, Byesville OH 43723.
