Shiplett Road Fire Turns Fatal

South Zanesville- One of three people injured in a fire on Shiplett Road Monday morning has passed away.

South Zanesville Fire Chief Russell Taylor said Friday that a woman in her 80s succumbed to her injures. He  reported she had burns over 40 percent of her body and was being treated at a Columbus hospital.

South Zanesville Fire Department said the mobile home was fully involved when they arrived Monday and that three residents were outside in need of medical treatment. Two were transported to Columbus, one was taken to Genesis.

The fire remains under investigation. According to the fire department one of the victims thought a heating lamp for chickens inside the house was a possible explanation for the fire.

The home is a total loss.
