Gary Long

Gary Lee Long, 76 of Zanesville, died 4:00 AM, Monday, January 29, 2024, at Genesis Morrison House Hospice. He was born Saturday, October 4, 1947, in Wooster, the son of Pauline F. (Fike) Long.
Gary served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from Ohio Ferro Alloy following over 20 years of service. Following his retirement Gary was a Public Safety Officer with Genesis Health Care Systems for many years. During his tenure he was instrumental in training new officers.
Gary was appointed by the Mayor of Zanesville to the Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority Board, a position he held upon his death. During his time serving on the board, Gary was a very active member. Gary was a Master Gardner, and involved in local community gardening efforts, especially the Brighton Grows Community Garden. He enjoyed travel, photography, good food, dining out, and animals; especially his four legged friend, Missy.
Gary is survived by a brother, Bruce (Linda) Long, two nieces, Amber (Ryan) Hogue and Heather (Shawn) Acheson; three great nieces; and his Family at Frank Cook Senior Housing, Patti Tate, Rick Hann, Karen Peach, Sharon Barstow and Jolanda DeJesus.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother.
Military Honor Services will be held 12:30 PM, Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Veterans Garden, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pershing Road, Zanesville, where military services will be provided by the United States Air Force, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29. Following military services a memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM, in the Community Room at the Frank Cook Senior Housing Building, 450 Baker Street, Zanesville, with Rev.
