Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation’s You Matter 5K Returns

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation is gearing up for a celebration of hope and support with the return of the You Matter 5K race this spring.

Scheduled for Sunday, May 5th at 12 PM, the race will take place on the Collegial Woods Trail behind Ohio University Zanesville. Participants have the option to compete in the timed race or join the non-timed walk or run. Awards will be up for grabs for the top performers in various categories.

“The reason that we’ve been doing this 5K is to bring awareness for mental health issues, especially among young people in our community or across the state. One young person in Ohio dies by suicide every 34 to 36 hours, and that is a very scary and sad statistic. One of the reasons we’re having this event is to promote the awareness that you are not alone, there are resources to help you, you have worth, and you do matter,” 5K Race Director, Christy Rahrig said.

Early bird registration is set at $25 for those who sign up before April 19th, then the fee will increase to $30. The proceeds from the race will go towards supporting the work of the Community Youth Foundation and the Muskingum County Suicide Prevention Coalition.

“This year, we are sharing the proceeds with the Muskingum County Suicide Prevention Coalition because we feel that they do a lot of good work in the community, and we want to help support their cause with helping other people with whatever they’re going through as well because they have a lot of excellent resources to share,” Rahrig said.
