“Quick Picks” at John McIntire Library
Getting your favorite book from the library has never been easier.
The John McIntire Library is launching a new collection tomorrow. The "Quick Picks" collection will allow people to access their favorite titles and authors quicker by not allowing renewals on them. Holds cannot be placed on these books and they can only be borrowed for two weeks. We spoke with the Assistant Director of the Muskingum County Library System, Blair Tom.
"Well the library system has its goal to get what customers want, when they want it as quickly as possible," Tom said. "That convenience factor. Quick Picks gives us the ability to have more copies available more immediately."
Tom said that this program is an adaptation of programs that exist and have worked at other library systems. He added that it will allow the library to free up spaces on its hold lists for best selling books but that it will also help the customers.
"For customers, the bottom line is there will be more copies of those best sellers, high interest items that they will be able to get sooner," Tom said. "And that is always the goal to make it available when they want it, where they want, in the quantities that meet their needs, so people have access as soon as possible."
While the borrowing period for the "Quick Picks" is no different then other new releases Tom said that this will allow more people to get their hands on the books they want by not allowing holds or renewals.
