United Way Credit Score Workshop

United Way Week started Monday with a "Take Control of Your Credit Score" Workshop at the Metropolitan Housing Authority, Family Resource Center.

The event is the first of a weeks worth of events that are kicking off United Ways fall campaign season. Executive director Meg Deedrick says that this event is aimed at helping people learn about their financial past so that they are able to succeed in their financial future.

"We want to help families thrive, that’s what united way does in Muskingum, Morgan and Perry Counties" Said Deedrick. "And one of the ways we help families thrive is to make sure the are making the most of their household budgets and they are making the most of their money. "

At the workshop community members paired with United Way volunteers who helped them gather their credit score from a free online website, they then looked over the report line by line and offered financial advice and suggestions. Jesse Rollins, a United Way Volunteer who works at North Valley Bank said that informative workshops like these are extremely important.

"Working in a bank I see a lot of people come in and don’t know how to help themselves out when it comes to their credit score."

The event was from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday and the appointments lasted approximately 15 to 20 minutes from log on to log off.
