State Route 60 to Open End of September

The Ohio Department of Transportation is explaining why there is a delay in re-opening State Route 60 south of Duncan Falls

It was expected to be opened last Monday, but delays and the opening of the road for Labor Day weekend have pushed that date back. District 5 Public Information Officer Ericka Pfeifer says the road should be opened by the end of this month.

"We are on track to be opened by the end of September, however the sheer nature of the project is a day to day basis. It is very sensitive to the weather, materials getting here on time, all of that has to be taken into consideration" said Pheifer.

Pfeifer also explained that while the road is projected to open at the end of September, all dangers to motorists must be removed.

"So far we’ve removed a lot of the rock face, we’ve hung a mesh wire fencing to stabilize the rock and right now what you see them doing is building a retaining wall to keep back any rock that might fall in the future and protect it from weathering."

The contractor, Shelly and Sands, will begin receiving a $3,500 a day fine for every day the road goes unopened after the end of the month.
