UPDT: EMA and Engineer’s Office Closes Old River Rd

Roadclosed

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency and the Engineer’s Office have announced the closure of a roadway in the county.

EMA Director Jeff Jadwin said Sunday afternoon that Old River Road (County Road 6) is closed from the 8200 block to the 8400 block, which means it is closed from Butterbean Road to the Gaysport Bridge.

Jadwin explained that a slip occurred that took down some trees and that they are dangerously close to the roadway. The fear is any vibration from those driving on the road could cause the slip to become even more of a danger, prompting the closure of the road.

Matt Russell with the county engineer’s office said that they believe the roadway will be closed for three weeks, weather permitting,  so that they can stabilize the riverbank.

We’ll keep you up to date of any more information as it becomes available.
