Muskingum County Commissioners Race
Candidates seeking local, state and national office took part in a public forum at the John McIntire Library Sunday.
There is one open Muskingum County Commissioners’ seat. And incumbent James Porter has one challenger, Linda Regula. In his campaign Porter is stressing job creation throughout the county.
"We must keep government spending under control and understand our economy will recover from creativity and hard work of the private citizens not from government spending," Porter said. "I want Muskingum County to be financially sound by making good policy decisions, spending frugally and by investing resources wisely."
Porter and Regula agree that creating jobs around the county is important. Regula said she grew up in poverty and knows the horrors that come with it. She has spent her time in Muskingum County as a volunteer, and she wants to continue helping the community on a larger scale as a county commissioner.
"I see the downtown, the buildings being demolished, being abandoned and it breaks my heart," Regula said. "I will put all of the passion into the position of county commissioner, helping the majority of the people rather than seeing things go to just a few."
Many other candidates spoke at the forum Sunday, and over the next few days we will be highlighting some of those races.
