Campaign: Ohio House of Representatives 78th District
Candidates from around the area came to Zanesville Sunday to participate in a public forum.
We highlighted the Muskingum County Commissioner’s race Sunday and now we have the race for the 78th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. Both Laina Rogers (D) and the incumbent Ron Hood (R) spoke at the forum. One thing that Hood focused on was bringing jobs into the area.
"The problem we have is it’s not enough, it’s not enough to have to be able to say what are we doing in Muskingum County to bring jobs here," Hood said. "We have to make sure that on the state level we’re not doing anything that discourages, that discourages companies from wanting to be here."
Rogers believes that job creation is key, but it is not the cornerstone of her campaign. She is campaigning to bring a change to the Ohio education system.
"Americans used to be viewed the world over as great thinkers and innovators, but now we teach our kids to fill in bubbles," Rogers said. "We need to allow local districts from the board down to the teachers as a cooperative effort to determine what methods work best for their classrooms."
This is the second in our five part series on upcoming races. Tomorrow we will bring you the race for the 97th District in the Ohio House of Representatives.
